Community Education

The OVA provides essential education sessions to raise awareness about factors contributing to maternal mortality, recognizing that the burden should not rest solely on birthing people to advocate for their needs. These trainings are designed to empower members of our local community with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance maternal health outcomes by promoting health-seeking behaviors for birthing individuals in their circles.

We have successfully launched a community-centered training program focused on recognizing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and are in year four of successfully providing the early warning signs of post birth complications training.

In addition to our community facing trainings, we have a provider facing training that equips healthcare professionals with critical skills for identifying, responding to, and referring cases of intimate partner and sexual violence. As well as a training for academic and professional groups in health related disciplines that explores current perinatal health trends, the important work of Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRC), and how data can drive real change.
