Pregnancy symptoms can feel different for everyone — and some people don’t feel any changes at all. Here are some signs and symptoms of early pregnancy:

  • Missed period

  • Breast/chest pain 

  • Irregular bleeding or spotting

  • Fatigue

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Cramping

  • Constipation

  • Mood swings

  • Bloating

Pregnancy Tests

The best way to confirm a pregnancy is to take a pregnancy test. Home pregnancy tests are available at healthcare sites, pharmacies, and other retail stores.

Home pregnancy tests work just as well as tests in the clinic.

  • It can take about two weeks after a missed period for a pregnancy test to come back positive.

  • Make sure you follow the instructions that come with the pregnancy test, including how long to wait before reading the results.

  • If you miss a period or don’t get regular periods and think you may be pregnant, but your pregnancy test is negative, repeat the test in two weeks.

For youth under 18

You don’t need a parent or guardian to get a pregnancy test. Talk to your doctor about what stays confidential and any concerns you have about privacy.

You can start getting prenatal care as soon as you know you’re pregnant. How often you’ll need to see a prenatal care specialist depends on how far along you are and your risk for complications.
